Troubleshooting: When Your PC Doesn’t Boot or Overheats After Cleaning

Troubleshooting: When Your PC Doesn’t Boot or Overheats After Cleaning
By Chongchen Saelee

If you’re lucky, you can go maybe a full year or two without cleaning your computer. But you have to be careful. You can’t just on a whim do a complete disassembly and cleaning. You need to have spare parts lying around just in case you break something or need things replaced like dried up thermal paste. So always make sure you have spare parts and supplies around before doing anything.

Anyway, I won’t get into how to clean your computer, but I will get into how to figure out why afterwards your computer won’t boot up or there is a BIOS warning that your CPU is overheating. Check for these:

  • Did you apply thermal paste on the CPU surface correctly? You should only apply a very small amount, some say the size of a pea, but I say the size of two grains of rice. Make sure that you are pushing down on the heatsink onto the CPU with balanced pressure so that no air pockets are in connected surfaces. Too much thermal paste could store heat, too little will not displace heat.
  • Did you make sure anything you disassembled, you re-assembled correctly? For example, if the cables aren’t plugged in completely, especially the motherboard or CPU’s power cable, then the CPU knows to throttle power or give a warning so that it doesn’t fry itself. If you ignore these symptoms, you’re looking for major malfunction.
  • If there is no video output, then make sure your graphics card is properly seated in its slot. Make sure the graphics card’s power cable is connected properly. If you replaced the GPU’s thermal pad or paste, make sure that it has complete contact between the heatsink and GPU chip.

The big no-nos when it comes to handling computer parts:

  • Don’t drop anything!
  • Don’t discharge any static or electricity on sensitive parts. Not only will you damage the hardware, if you end up electrocuting yourself, your hardware’s not gonna mourn for you.

For the most part, assuming you aren’t grossly incompetent or just plain don’t know what you are doing, then things should go smoothly. You’d have to really want to break your machine for it to not to work anymore. Most of the time when your computer doesn’t work even though previously it did, it’s because of simple human error.

Good luck!

Wonder Woman 1984 Official Trailer Released

Seems a little limp. Color grading is awesome. Music is appropriate. But nothing particularly epic about it. The only thing that really sticks out is Wondie swinging on lightning bolts, which is surprisingly imaginative.

The Flash: A Body Horror Time Travel Crime Thriller (Fan Fiction)

The Screaming Horror Flash

The Flash: A Body Horror Time Travel Crime Thriller (Fan Fiction)
By Chongchen Saelee

My idea for how to do The Flash for the big screen. It would be a mix between Hellraiser, The Time Machine, and Altered States.

The basic premise is that Barry Allen is a crime scene investigator who can’t get over the death of his wife having found her skinned when he shows up by chance at a crime scene. So he makes a deal with The Devil in an attempt to bring his wife back to life. Of course, shit goes to hell when he’s working in the lab and is struck by red lightning, the building burns down, and his body disappears. Everyone assumes he’s dead. more »

How To Fix Locked CD Tray Caused By Cyberlink PowerDVD 17 for Windows 7

Stuck CD tray

How To Fix Locked CD Tray Caused By Cyberlink PowerDVD 17 for Windows 7

Copyright © 2019 By Chongchen Saelee

If you’ve previously used Cyberlink PowerDVD 17 (or previous versions) to watch your Blu-ray disc movies, you might encounter a problem the next time you use the program again when you seemingly cannot open your CD tray. The CD tray might eject partially and then quickly return into the slot. It’s as though gremlins have hijacked your CD tray and messing with you!

Fear not, it’s not a virus. It’s definitely not gremlins. It’s because PowerDVD 17 has stored some data in it’s cache system thinking a disc is still in the CD tray. I assume it does this for DRM (digital rights management) purposes, to prevent users from copying the movies. Anyway, while that data is still in PowerDVD 17’s cache, you won’t be able to get that CD tray open. So you need to CLEAR THE CACHE. more »

Too Lazy To Eat Healthy? Then Just Eat Kale!

Kale with every meal!

Too lazy to eat healthy? Then just eat kale with every meal. Since kale is packed full of all sorts of vitamins, you can get all your nutrients in one meal instead of having to find all the foods that will provide you with it.

Granted, you might not enjoy kale raw. It’s quite bitter and fiberous. But if you don’t mind spending an extra minute or two chewing kale like a cow, then you might benefit from it in the long run.

Besides, it’s goddamn cheap! I can buy a bundle of kale from my local Walmart for only $0.98!!! I can eat for a whole week knowing damn well I’m getting all my vitamins every day.

The Dead Fish Trap

The Dead Fish Trap: A Scary Southeast Asian Tale
An early Halloween treat from Chongchen Saelee

Deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia where it constantly rains and the dark brown earth is covered by darker shadows from the thick canopy above, the people struggle to survive day-to-day despite living in an environment that seems to be fertile with life and serene.

One day, along a stretch of man-made trail, which was no wider than 2 feet and was basically bare dirt surrounded by thick grass from all the years of people trekking the same path, a gang of young dirty starving but happy children none older than about 10 years of age were walking and chattering carrying a small worn-out wooden bucket filled with a couple small fish from a fishing outing by the creek earlier.

From the opposite end of the trail approached an old bald fisherman with spots on his bald scalp and he had a long unkempt white beard. The old man was really thin, his eyes were baggy and tired, and he was always smiling and humming old songs but his teeth were yellow and crooked and many had fallen out. The old man was carrying a crude fishing rod made from bamboo and had a fancy bamboo weaved basket, a decent size, which might hint for locals that he may be quite proficient at what he did. The old man had a pipe dangling in his mouth, although it wasn’t stuffed or lit. He enjoyed smoking opium while he fished.

When the old fisherman and the gang of youths eventually meet in the middle of the trail, the old man couldn’t resist the youths’ potent young energy. The old man asked to see what kind of fish the children had caught and they were more than happy to brag about their measly two tiny fish. The old man laughed loudly and insulted the children, calling them stupid and smelly and dispensed his tips and tricks on how to catch the biggest fish in the village, fish so big you could eat for an entire week. more »

Star Wars Episode IX Rise of Skywalker Teaser Trailer is Online!!!

Meh. Awesome CGI though. Music’s always good. But everything else isn’t. Nostalgia factor practically is gone. And nostalgia is a huge part of Star Wars success, a bunch of men who can’t grow up reliving their childhood about the first time they experienced “new worlds”. You can remedy that in real life by meeting new people and being more open-minded of people and cultures that are different than your own. Living on movies with people in green and blue makeup isn’t going to fix that.

Scientists finally photograph a black hole

Photo of Black Hole

Photo of Black Hole

It’s weird and a too simplistic. It looks like a solar eclipse. Maybe that’s how a black hole is supposed to look like, the inverse of the sun, the inverse of the giver of light.

Serenity EX2: The Further Adventures of Baker Dil

A fan fiction by Cnoknor Salihiwi IV

I didn’t always go by Baker Dillon, or Baker Dil for short. I escaped a troubled past. It’s been so long, I don’t even remember why or maybe I’ve just blocked it out. But I’m Baker Dil nowadays. The name just sounds more freeing.

Here I am on my heroic mystical quest into uncharted territories aboard my ship The Serenity. This time, I’m on the search for the dragon brothers that have been terrorizing Plymouth: Bowser, Gandondorf, and Ridley. I’m headed for the highest point on top of Mount Greyskull, yes, I know it sounds ominous, where I heard menacing dragons like to roost.

I was given this glowing golden sword by an old wise speaking owl while trekking through the forest nude. I found trekking nude as liberating to my soul as swimming nude in the open water. It’s like a rebirth every time.

Legend has it, I need to slay these dragons with this golden sword because it has been endowed with magical powers. I suppose I could use a harpoon gun but I just have to take the wise owl’s word for it. I’ve cheated death too many times based on my own whims or someone else’s. It was when I left my fate up to divine intervention is when I knew I was on the right side of God. He’s carried me this far.
