Salvaging The Defunct Basic Instinct Bluray

Originally published Oct. 13, 2009 – I don’t know if it’s a fact or not, but I’m suspecting Lionsgate did a silent recall on their distribution of early editions of the “Basic Instinct” Bluray disc (BD). Apparently, my almost mint-condition copy of the Basic Instinct BD doesn’t play anymore. I was able to play it on a PlayStation 3 (PS3) a year ago when I first purchased the BD, but after the PS3’s firmware was updated, Basic Instinct failed to playback. It doesn’t run on a PC player either. (more…)

modelZILLA social network site for models and artists

modelZILLA

Sigh. It’s so hard to start up a project from nothing. It’s one thing to make a personal website which caters mainly to stroke one’s own ego, it’s another to create a product to draw others in. And the hope is that the product is good enough that strangers become customers and keep coming back. If the small niche that I’ve discovered on the Internet is thriving enough, I hope I can tap into it to make some revenue. (more…)

Living up to Stereotypes: Midwestern Deer Hunting Culture

Undoubtedly, one of Wisconsin’s most beloved sports is deer hunting (or outdoor gaming, in general). It would be unavoidable for me as my parents are passionate about the game, having come from similar history back in Laos. Watching from the ignorant first-generation Asian-American’s point of view, it’s kind of poignant that this culture will be lost. If you were as clueless about where processed bologna came from, here’s a clue: (more…)

Ancient in digital trend years, but still VERY functional in Windows XP and Vista. By adding a few more lines of code to the drawing engine, SGDK games will display correctly on widescreen monitors. (more…)

Living up to Stereotype: Eating Balut/Khai Luk (fetal duck egg)

I want to start a regular entry called “Living up to the Stereotype”. It’s main focus is, for me as an Asian-American, to live up to the American stereotypes of Asians (what is unfortunately an amalgamation of a diversity of Asian cultures). For example, Americans would believe that any Chinese person was notorious for eating dog meat. That isn’t always the case. (more…)
