Pen Tonic - Sept. 19, 2002

When you’re a young person, you go through life either by your own rules (because of a lack of parenting) or you abide blindly to the rules established by an authority figure. Authority figures sometimes mean well in what they teach, but they forget what it was like to be young. Here, I depict the students as cardboard cut-outs, filling their seats dutifully only to have the professor realize they the students aren’t really paying attention or are present at all. The young don’t listen to the elderly, not while they are young. Of course, if I were to extend the message, it is only when the young get older then do they realize how important the teachings were.
