I’m not just saying that because I get a lot of referrals to this website from, but also because I am a proud member of the social networking website for models, photographers, and the like. You can check out my photography portfolio at

How To Succeed With Model Mayhem

No matter what your goals are using the website, it’s important that you don’t give up. As long as you aren’t a creeper or sexual predator, and you’re main goal should be creating somekind of art or modeling or doing something involving artmaking, and not just getting laid, then you could be successful. The first thing you want to do is get familiar with the actual network and socialize. It’s pointless to join the site if you’re not trying to find people to collaborate with.

If you’re an artist or photographer, that means having a strong portfolio. Your technical skills need to shine.

If you’re a model, you need to have a strong look or a unique look. Your technical portfolio doesn’t necessarily need to be that strong. Basically, once you show you have “the look”, your portfolio should get better as more skilled photographers want to work with you.

Reality vs Fantasy

Model Mayhem is not a star-maker. Honestly, it’s pretty amateurish, but it is quite diverse in talent. There are actual professionals that are on the site, too. Some that are quite influential when it comes to the beauty industry and culture. So much so that you might not want to take their advice for granted.

Approach your goals with positivity and friendliness and you might find what you’re looking for. Sometimes you might have to create your own work, or market yourself even harder to get collaborator’s attention. You reap what you sow. There is no magic solution.

Money vs Fame

If you just want to make money, be prepared to get your A-game up. Now, Model Mayhem isn’t necessarily a money pot, but people do make careers out of modeling and photography using the site as a tool. If you can be incredibly objective and professional about your goals, you might get a lucrative experience out of it.

However, if you just want to become “Internet famous”, you can do that too. But you have to network with the right people and get your reputation established. You do that by having a strong portfolio and amazing socializing skills. And some members might even affect the culture if they strike gold on a major project, in turn, become actually famous. But that’s rare. You just need to be realistic.

Fake it til you make it

To summarize, it’s okay to fake it until you make it. But it’s a matter of how bad you want it and being realistic about it. It might help if you understand how the how Internet modeling industry works, how social dynamics work, how people actually are, and you’ll be fine. If you get scared away by the slightest roadblock or negative stigmas, then you wouldn’t have the strength to succeed anyway. Again, that fame and fortune doesn’t come to you, you have to go out there and make it happen.

I hope that’s a good sell for potential MM members. Hey, maybe one day we can work on a project together! See you on Model Mayhem!
