USD$100 Up For Grabs: Convince Me

By Chongchen Saelee

Consider this a social experiment. This is NOT A JOKE. I want to see if anyone will take the bait… and I’ll document it.

Consider this my act of kindness with a twist.

If you have a PayPal account, a real one (don’t con me), I’m willing to give you USD$1 as a donation until that USD$100 is dispensed or I close the contest. But you have to convince me. Leave a comment with your real name and email in the comments and why I should give you free money. If you post any pics, make sure you own the rights or have permission to do so.

Whoever I decide to give money to agrees that I now have the right to use your likeness and submitted content to publicize my contest or use in any marketing materials as I see fit, which includes my YouTube videos, various blogs, printed materials, etc. That’s the only catch. Not too complicated.

Good luck!

See, after 2012, 20th Century Fox slapped a bunch of their newly authored Blu-rays with BD+ and some other fancy DRM (digital rights management) techniques. So in order for you to play their content, you need to use their authorized firmware aka Blu-ray software players.

Unfortunately, if you’re an owner of an older Hewlett-Packard laptop who is stuck using their built-in media player software such as HPMediaSmart DVD, and you don’t have software upgrade or update support anymore, then you might be SOL or forced to buy a new commercial Blu-ray software that will play newer titles (Who has USD$100 lying around these days, especially to watch Blu-rays that have been collecting dust on our shelves for more than half a decade?).

HP, however, provided HP laptop owners with a FREE STANDARD VERSION of PowerDVD 10. The file is ~150 MB. (more…)
