Additional Warp Fix on Auto Warp Distortion Selfies

If you’re using a smart phone’s camera, you have to be wary that because of the size of the camera lens, you’re going to get a lot of distortion. Instagram doesn’t let you fix that.

So I had to use a combination of Spherize and Warp tools in Photoshop CS2 to get it looking somewhat like me. I know I’m not that pudgy. The ideal is to match how your eyes see yourself in the mirror.

I know after tinkering with it in Photoshop, it made my forehead longer, but it looks closer to reality at least.

Here are the very simple retouch steps I took to make Lea really pop out and look feminine.

  • Soft lighting
  • Enhanced color in pupils
  • Put some color into cheeks and nose to give youthful look
  • Enhanced contrast of shadows and highlights to create moist skin effect
  • Smaller nose
  • Color correction that is more pinkish associated with fertility

Other things you could have also done:

  • Moisten the lips, but don’t overdo it
  • Moisten the hair, make it extra shiny
  • Cliche, but photoshop in jewelry, subtle earring, necklace, etc.
  • Vignette with feminine symbology, background, etc

It’s not a complete retouch, and Lea’s head looks floaty, but this is just a quick demo. I also used Liquify > Pinch tool to remove the skin underneath the jaw. I had no idea how to do that before.

Well, looks like I have lots of images to salvage. Some masterpieces to come.

I am impressed by the results of Adobe Photoshop CS2 Smart Sharpen filter. Yes, I know the software is ancient, but it was a much needed upgrade from my CS1. What’s cool is that you can sharpen individually the shadows or the highlights. Granted, if there is major motion blur, you won’t be able to “restore” the sharpness. You’re photo exposure needs to be at least decent.
